Project Car Stories: Marshmallow The Car

Project Car Stories: Marshmallow The Car

I grew up loving cars, especially Ferraris, but I really got into the car scene when I got my Renault Clio aka Marshmallow The Car.

At first it was just my daily, nothing special. Then one day I painted the rims black, and that was it… suddenly it didn’t feel like just “a car” anymore, it felt like mine. After that it continued: canards, front lip, painted tire lettering, wind deflectors, air intakes, underglow, lowering springs, subwoofer, different head unit, and way too many stickers that "added more horsepower". Every little thing made me more attached to it. It stopped being just transport and turned into something that felt like part of me.

Then I started going to car meets… and honestly, that changed things. Instead of feeling like I belonged, I often felt out of place. People would look at the Clio like it wasn’t “enough,” and by extension, like I wasn’t either. It didn’t take long to realize that in a lot of places, it’s more about the badge, the price, and the image than actual passion. At one point someone even spat on the car, and that just stuck with me. It kind of showed how quickly people can dismiss something you care about just because it doesn’t fit their idea of “cool.”

After that, I started seeing the whole scene differently. There’s the side that’s all ego and comparisons, where people just judge builds and brands. And then there’s also this part where a few people go out just to cause trouble and "look cool". And because of that the actual enthusiasts get judged for stuff they had nothing to do with. But then there’s also the side I actually care about- the people who just love cars, no matter what they drive, and appreciate the effort that goes into it.

But honestly, the Clio meant a lot more than just a project. It was late nights in the garage, random drives with no destination, quiet moments where everything just felt calm. It’s also what connected me to people who actually get it - the ones who aren’t there to judge, just to enjoy cars the same way I do.

Marshmallow was never about building some perfect show car. It was just about the feeling -peace, passion, and finally feeling like I belong somewhere
